Not your typical
“ art retreat ”
Escape the Ordinary!
Elaine's Intentional Intuitive Painting Retreats aren't your typical 'art retreats.' Instead of traditional group workshops in picturesque surroundings, you’re invited to fully immerse yourself in a unique journey of solo painting sessions, guided by intuition.
the focus
This solo, self-directed retreat is my personal invitation to you. A chance to settle into a cozy, nurturing space in my home studio to encounter your creative self. Give yourself the gift of focused time here, a chance to slow down, tap into your creative intuition, and express it through painting.
the journey
Take 3 days, 5 days, or a full week just for yourself, fully immersed in intuitive art-making at your own rhythm. This retreat gives you the freedom to explore, while I gently guide you through your painting sessions. A quiet journey for self-connection, personal growth, and authentic self-expression.
the home
Welcoming you to my home studio in the neighborhood of Subang Jaya (Malaysia). You’re invited on a focused journey of creativity & self-discovery, intense yet relaxing. Your “ArtBnB” room is thoughtfully decorated with serene vibes, offering a calm stay where you can pause, recharge & reset.
the creation
By the end of your retreat, you'll witness the magic of your own intuitive process. What began as a blank canvas evolves into a visual reflection of your inner world. Each piece you create holds the story of your journey—unique, personal, & meaningful. This is where your creativity takes shape, revealing insights & expressions you didn’t know were there.
Disappear & Create!
Gift yourself a getaway to spend focused time in an inspiring & quiet artist’s “home-away-from-home” setting to hone your intuitive skills, and to cultivate inner expression through art, meditation & creative mindfulness. Disappear to paint, and reemerge with heartfelt masterpieces to share with the world!

There are a few neighborhood parks for exercise and taking breaks with nature. You have access to our creative coworking space The Hatchery Place if you feel like connecting to others to work together.
This quiet neighborhood is a major affluent residential township situated at the southern part of Subang Jaya and was established in 1988.
A number of great restaurants, hip cafes, spas, parks, gyms, popular local food courts, mamaks, 7Elevens, Family Marts, launderettes and shops are within walking distance or just a few minutes’ drive. Enjoy Subang USJ like a local!

Subang Jaya (commonly called “Subang” by locals) is a bustling suburb and a neatly self-contained hub of higher education institutions, eateries, malls and independent retail stores.
With an estimated population of roughly 700,000 people, just 24 km south of Kuala Lumpur, living in Subang Jaya offers a vibrant and convenient lifestyle. This suburban city in Malaysia is known for its:
Diversity: Subang Jaya is a melting pot of cultures, making it a multicultural and inclusive place to live.
Amenities: You'll find shopping malls, restaurants, cafes, and entertainment options aplenty.
Connectivity: It's well-connected to Kuala Lumpur and other major cities via highways and public transportation.
Green Spaces: Despite urbanization, Subang Jaya maintains parks and green areas, promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Community: The city often hosts events and activities, fostering a sense of community among residents.
-
Like with most places in the Klang Valley, getting around by car is the fastest and easiest way. LRT stations connect Subang Jaya with Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur city centre.
We recommend downloading the Grab (like Uber) e-hailing app for easy and affordable transportation.
We are 40 minute drive from KLIA 1 & 2 airport. 15min drive from Subang Airport. 25km from Kuala Lumpur city center. The nearest LRT train is Wawasan station, 5mins drive away (or 20mins walk).
-
Lunches are NOT included in the retreat. You prepare your own lunch throughout the stay. Malaysian eateries & restaurants are very convenient, cheap, and nearby (within 15-30mins walking distance / 5mins drive).
Cafes and groceries stores are plenty around. Delivery services are abundant too. If you’d like to plan for meal delivery services, we can suggest our preferred healthy/vegan/vegetarian options.
Food Deliver Apps: GrabFood, FoodPanda, Shopee Food.
Self-Directed
Your retreat with me will be entirely self-directed and self-catered, with curated creative and intuitive activities to support your journey.
This experience gives you the flexibility to work at your own pace, following your unique creative process without a set schedule, no prescribed times for waking up or meals. I’ll send a proposed session schedule before your arrival, and we’ll reconfirm everything on your first day here.
Depending on the timing (& synchronicities!), there may be other participants on their own self-paced retreat during your stay.
You may find yourself painting alongside others or enjoying the solitude, depending on the programs and your preference. The rhythm here is relaxed and informal.
Your Stay In This House
You will have the ArtBnB room entirely to yourself, with quiet access to the studio space for painting, reflection, and rest.
My own home is a short 4 min walk away, so I come by regularly to my “second home” throughout the day. At different moments you may find me painting in the studio, making coffee or tea, sitting down for a conversation, doing gardening, or checking in to see how your process is unfolding.
During your stay I move naturally between roles. Sometimes I am your art guide. Sometimes a host making sure you are comfortable. Sometimes simply another artist sharing the space. You have privacy and solitude when you want it, with gentle companionship and guidance available when you need it.

The Intuitive Painting Sessions
What is Intuitive Painting?
Intuitive painting is an opportunity to explore the inner self through the creative process in a safe, critic free environment. It is not a painting technique or method. Intentional Intuitive Painting is a process of blending intention and intuition. One makes a conscious decision to paint a subject, but the process is guided by intuition (example colors, lines, shapes, symbols, elements).
By nature, we are creative & intuitive beings, capable of creating much more than we often believe. The playshop series are designed to harness the power of our creativity through our intention and the intuitive painting process. With the themes designed by Elaine, we will be playing with different & mixed mediums. (acrylics, water colour pencils, water colour, acrylic inks, gouache, paper, marker pens, etc.)
What will we be doing the most during your stay?
Throughout your stay, you will learn how to access your inner creative intelligence, and to bring it into your conscious playful, creative expression.
Different mediums and tools will be used and explored. We’ll use guided visualization, prayerful intention, and intuitive painting as expressive tools to translate our inner wisdom into color, shapes, symbols and form, expressed out through painting.
If you feel called upon a specific theme, do not hesitate to embrace it by painting it. Your soul may be prompting you towards the embodiment of these values in your life.
What if you’ve never painted before?
There is no prior painting experience necessary. Even if you have never painted or drawn in your life, the sessions will take you beyond your limitations and open you to your powerful creative self. We speak in symbol & metaphor every day whether we know it or not. The sessions will deepen you into the journey of being the visionary storyteller and creator of your life.
Intuitive painting can help us to develop an intuitive practice in our lives, activate our inner soul’s wisdom & creative freedom, cultivate a positive intend when making art, and discover our soul’s message / nudges / lessons.

A Sample 3D2N Personal Retreat Schedule
This is just a sample, you can plan your retreat itinerary completely to your own preference.
“Elaine’s style of leading the session from the beginning till the end was smooth, professional, and fun!”
“I’ve been a solo traveler for more than 4 years, this retreat was exceptional. I booked it a few hours before I went there. Elaine accepted me in her retreat, despite being a last-minute booking.
Elaine designed a custom retreat for me to fit my retreat’s purpose. I was not feeling well physically, emotionally, and mentally I was stressed. I searched for answers, deeper spiritual experience, and more grounding.
I didn’t feel it was a typical “modern retreat”, it’s an authentic deep spiritual life-changing experience. It is a safe space and community full of love, acceptance, and guidance which helped me elevate my low disturbed vibrations, encouraging me to go -safely- deeper to the roots of my manifested reality to have a clearer and better understanding of it.
Every day I had a different session with Elaine, starting with a grounding meditation with a specific intention of determining the part within which we are supposed to let it express itself. I felt relaxed during the whole process, and the drawings were always beautiful, authentic, and meaningful.
I found answers !!!! I have been looking for it since I started my spiritual journey. We both shared our experiences in life. Elaine inspired me to step into my path courageously, knowing it’s possible to go through anything in this life and get the message behind it.
The Hatchery Place is well prepared and equipped with all the necessary stuff needed for a Homey and comfy space where I could relax, write, read a book, cook, chill, and draw. Everything you need is just a 10-minute walking distance from the retreat, but still, I felt like I was inside one of these real-Instagram style 2-floor houses, where it’s comfy, and authentic but still modern.
Elaine is very responsive and helpful with the smallest inquiries to help me buy materials from Malaysia before I leave. Elaine & Kevin created this space because they believe it’s their message on earth -to build a beautiful welcoming community to allow everyone to discover and express themselves. Thanks, Elaine & Kevin for accepting and welcoming me into your holistic space, I’m grateful for your high-standard warm-hearted hospitality, and I’m coming back for sure whenever it’s possible!”
- Raghda (Egypt), 5D4N Retreat at The Hatchery Place - January 2024
“I enjoyed every bit of the one-on-one painting sessions where Elaine would lead you to relax and be yourself, to delve into the topic of your preference in deep.”
“I would love to recommend this ArtBnB to those who want to have some peaceful quiet time away yet in a wonderfully warm and welcoming atmosphere. Elaine is an awesome artist and facilitator. I enjoyed every bit of the one-on-one painting sessions where Elaine would lead you to relax and be yourself, to delve into the topic of your preference in deep. She won’t judge your painting but gently shares her painting techniques and her suggestions in order to enhance our skills and help express ourselves to the fullest through painting.
Elaine’s mum who lives on the ground floor is absolutely the lovely highlight of my stay. She is so kind and hospitable. She wouldn’t intrude your privacy but to show her care in a perfect motherly way. She cooked an egg for me every morning even she was not sure what time I would wake up. When I went down every morning, she greeted me with a big smile and an egg! So sweet and warm!
Regarding the condition of the house, it’s absolutely in style as you could see from the photos. A quiet residential area, neat and tidy.
I have made a mental note to come visit them as frequent as I could. Thank you Elaine for your efforts to make this special retreat happen - a real blessing which makes this world a better place to live in!!”

-
Elaine’s Intuitive Painting Retreat is suitable for painters of all levels.
-
This retreat is exclusively designed for adults; it's not suitable for children. Please note that participants must be at least 18 years old to travel and stay independently.
-
The retreat is primarily designed as a solo experience, tailored for one guest at a time. Occasionally, two people may attend together if they are a couple sharing the retreat. There is one dedicated ArtBnB room for retreat guests at The Hideaway.
A second room in the house may sometimes be occupied by a long term “art stay” resident. This person is typically an independent artist or creative spending time in the studio environment while working on their own projects. They are not part of the retreat program.
During your stay, you may also see Elaine moving through the studio as she works. At times, a local student may come by for a painting session, or a visitor may drop in for a short studio visit.
The house remains small, quiet, and residential in spirit, with the retreat guest at the center of the experience.
-
The main ArtBnB room used for the retreat is located upstairs and requires the use of a staircase, so it may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility.
However, there is a ground floor option called The Simple Room, which may be more accessible as it does not require stairs. The downstairs bathroom is also equipped with a toilet rail for additional support.
The Simple Room is more modest compared to the upstairs ArtBnB room, but it offers a practical option for guests who prefer or require a ground floor stay during their retreat.
-
The art retreat with artist Elaine Wong is available in English.
-
No, this retreat welcomes all genders who are drawn to explore their creative journey in a nurturing and reflective space.
Art
-
You will have your own studio set up in your ‘ArtBnb’ room. The studio will include an easel, table with drawers for art supply storage, palette, your toilet sink available, and a chair.
-
We recommend that you bring any art supplies that you typically use. Paint, brushes, mixed media materials, canvas, paper, etc. Art supplies will not be included for your personal practice, except for during your One-to-One guided sessions with Elaine.
-
There are a few art supply stores nearby in the suburb if you need things quick. Otherwise, it is recommended to go to the bigger stores in the city for wider range.
-
For Elaine’s guided sessions, you will be provided with mostly 300gsm cold pressed papers and small to medium sized canvases (for easy transportations).
If you’re planning to spend most of your time to work on your own art practice, we recommend working on unstretched canvas, paper, journals and/or small canvases. There are some stores where you can buy small canvases as well.
-
Of course! You can ship your art back to your home, or if you paint on unstretched canvas/paper, you can roll it up and bring it home in a tube. If you want to do this, we recommend you buy a tube with a carrying strap to easily bring home on the plane.
Accommodation
-
Absolutely! While the retreat primarily focuses on your solo painting practice at The Intuitive Art Hideaway, your spouse is more than welcome to accompany you.
We offer two double occupancy options: one for couples participating in the retreat together, and the other for partners simply staying in the room without engaging in the art activities.
-
Please make your travel arrangements to arrive after 2 PM on your check-in day. Check-out time is flexible as long as it is before 6pm on your departure day.
-
A washing machine and detergent are available in the house, and you are welcome to use them during your stay. There is no dryer, but our friendly tropical sun usually does the job well. Clothes can be hung out to dry in the open air.
Booking
-
You can book your retreat up to 6 months in advance. This helps us ensure availability and prepare for your personalized experience.
Payment
-
While payment plans are available, please note that all payments must be settled in full at least 14 days prior to the retreat date. Due to having just one room available for our solo retreats, we only accept guaranteed bookings with full payments.
Hence, it is recommended to plan ahead for your retreat. For instance, if you aim for a retreat in March, initiate your planning in January, granting you a two-month window for payment arrangements. Please note that your retreat may be rescheduled or postponed until full payment is received. Incomplete payments mean the booking is unconfirmed, and the reserved date may be allocated to another participant who completes full payment.
Kindly specify in the application form if you prefer to opt for a payment plan.
-
No, all retreat bookings are confirmed only upon full payment of the total retreat fees once the requested date is available.
-
All bookings are nonrefundable under any circumstances. Once payment is made, it is considered final. In the event of cancellation, regardless of the reason, no refunds will be granted. You can, however, reschedule the retreat to a later date; please communicate any changes as early as possible.
You also have the option to transfer or gift the retreat to a friend. However, your friend will need to submit their own application form as well.
-
In the event of a retreat cancellation due to force majeure or circumstances beyond artist Elaine Wong's control, she will promptly inform you, provide a full refund of the total retreat cost, or assist in rescheduling your retreat for another suitable date.
Food
-
We happily accommodate vegetarian and vegan diets. Elaine herself is also vegetarian.
If you have other special dietary needs, kindly arrange your own meals, as we are not professionally trained in catering. Our focus is on home-cooked meals for our own enjoyment.
-
Meals are NOT included in the retreat. You prepare your own lunch and dinner throughout the stay. We do stock basic items like rice, instant noodles, pasta, oil, salt, peppers, basic cooking sauces in the kitchen for your usage). Malaysian eateries & restaurants are very convenient, cheap, and nearby (within walking distance).
Groceries stores are plenty around. Delivery services are abundant too. If you’d like to plan for meal delivery services, we can suggest our preferred healthy/vegan/vegetarian options. This is a getaway where you can enjoy the local restaurants and cafes on your own, or buy groceries and cook in our kitchen.
-
Yes, you may share the kitchen to prepare simple meals and store your groceries in the fridge.
Non-vegetarian food is allowed. If you prepare meat dishes, please dispose of the scraps (bones, wet trash) immediately after cooking, as our tropical humidity can easily attract pests.
Kindly refrain from heavy cooking such as deep frying or strongly aromatic dishes, as the kitchen does not have a ventilation hood and we try to maintain clean, neutral air throughout the studio house.
Please keep the kitchen tidy and clear any food waste daily so the space remains clean and comfortable for everyone.
Packing
-
Comfortable summer clothing works best for our tropical climate. You may want to bring slip-on shoes or sandals, lightweight pants, sweat-absorbing T-shirts, shorts, and a hat or cap. A pashmina, wrap, or travel scarf can be useful, as indoor spaces such as LRT/MRT trains and shopping malls are often quite cold. A light sweatshirt can also come in handy.
For getting around, a small daypack, sling bag, or tote is practical. It is also helpful to bring a travel umbrella or a light breathable rain jacket.
Since you will be painting, please bring a “house T-shirt” or painting clothes that you do not mind getting paint splatters on.
Our weather is hot and humid throughout the year, with rain appearing in most months. The period between September and December usually brings more frequent rainfall.
-
If you plan to paint on medium sized canvases during your stay, it helps to bring a hard shell suitcase so you can safely bring your finished pieces home.
Please also bring your own personal toiletries (for example deodorant, facial care items, toothbrush and toothpaste, sunscreen), any prescriptions, personal electronics, travel adaptors, sleeping aids, travel documents, cash or cards, and mosquito repellent. There are plenty of shops nearby where you can purchase additional personal care items or sundries if needed.
Some guests also like to bring small comfort items from home. Herbal teas that soothe the stomach can be useful if you are not used to Malaysian spices. Other simple comforts such as electrolytes, heat patches, tiger balm, or a hot water bottle can also be helpful if you are sensitive to travel fatigue, stomach discomfort, or menstrual cramps.
Having a few familiar comforts from home can make the stay feel more easeful while you settle into the rhythm of the studio.
Misc
-
Yes, absolutely! You can purchase this retreat as a gift for someone special. Just select the gift card option, and fill in the form when you click ‘Add to Cart’.
-
Yes. While the studio house is designed primarily for solo retreats, I occasionally collaborate on small group retreats hosted at other locations.
If you are organizing a retreat and would like to invite me as a guest facilitator for intuitive painting sessions, feel free to reach out to discuss the possibility.
-
Residency: A residency is typically output driven. The residency is for artists seeking longer stays to focus on independent projects. It’s designed for those who want uninterrupted time and space to develop their work at their own pace. While the environment is supportive of creative exploration, there are no structured sessions or guidance provided.
Retreat: The retreat is a short & more immersive and guided experience, led by Elaine, with intuitive painting sessions to spark creativity, personal growth, and self-expression.
You don’t need to be an artist to join, just someone open to exploring your creativity and reconnecting with yourself in a peaceful, nurturing space. The retreat offers the perfect blend of creative guidance and time & space to work on your own creative project.
The retreat is ideal if you’re looking for both creative guidance, a restful escape, self-explorations, personal reflections and relaxations.Art Stay
At The Hideaway, there is also a third option called Art Stay. Art Stay is designed for longer stays of 14 nights or more.Art Stay sits between a residency and a retreat. Unlike a residency, Art Stay includes gentle structure through weekly check-ins with Elaine, offering space for conversation, reflection, and guidance around your creative / intuitive art process.
If you are interested in the Art Stay option, feel free to reach out for more details.
Your Facilitator & Host
I’m Elaine, your intuitive art guide!
I’ve been an intuitive painter for many years now.
I have always believe art can deliver healing messages to the beholder, and that the act of creating serves as a medium for inquiry into infinite possibilities. I like to paint whimsical, colourful and doodly artworks, letting my intuitions be my guide. My art practice serves as an extension of my quest to get to know myself deeper and through it cultivates a more intimate connection within & with the universe as a whole.
My practice hasn't always been entirely intuitive.
When I first started painting intuitively I knew I wanted to express my inner self, my soul, but I didn't really know how to do it properly. “Am I connecting to the right message?” “Is this how it feels like?” “Is it correct?” “Why am I creating a mess?” “Is my soul really speaking to me?”
It's probably a similar doubtful or clueless place you are at right now. If that's the case, then intuitive painting retreat is for you!
I will share my practice and process on how to truly listen to that inner voice that guides our painting hands. It will be a soulful retreat with an emphasis on how to tap into high vibrational energies to channel that true inner creative voice and paint onto the canvas!
